Welcome to the Library at MPHA Letter from the Director of Information Services Thank you for visiting the MPH library online. The library is the academic heart of the school. Our resources support the MPH curriculum and reflect student interests. We actively encourage the appreciation and enjoyment of reading for pleasure. We also provide personalized instruction in the skills necessary to become an effective user of ideas, information and media. Weekly library instruction is given to all pre K through Fifth grade students to stimulate interest in reading and to foster competence in research skills. Middle and Upper school students visit the library with classroom teachers and throughout the day during study and free time. Librarians collaborate frequently with faculty to design learning strategies that meet the needs of individual students. The library collection includes over 10,000 print volumes, subscription to over 50 print magazines and daily newspapers as well as access to many thousands of journals and scholarly texts via online databases. A small multimedia collection is maintained for faculty classroom use. The library loans digital equipment including digital video cameras, digital projectors, an ELMO digital overhead projector and laptops. The MPH library is part of the Computer and Information Science department (CIS) and its staff contributes to school wide education on internet safety, online etiquette, ethics in information use, and media literacy. Please visit the library anytime or join us for various library activities throughout the school year including poetry night, finals coffee house, stop-drop-and-read, banned book discussions, masterminds competitions, or broadcast journalism tapings. Consider being a visiting reader or volunteer. We’d love to have you. Liza Morrison |
