Athletics

At MPH, athletics is for everyone, athlete and enthusiast alike. Every student is given the opportunity to participate in any sport and many choose more than one during the year. Interscholastic sports start at MPH in Seventh Grade with modified teams. Coaches are faculty members who see students not only in the classroom, but also on the playing fields. A student who may not have been a part of a team before attending MPH often finds an opportunity to play a sport here. However, this does not mean our teams are not competitive; MPH regularly has state and sectional championship teams. Our varsity teams play in the Onondaga High School League (OHSL). The following list of sports show the diversity of athletic opportunities at MPH.

MPH Athletic Committee

Members of the MPH Athletic Committee discussed a wide variety of sports-related issues at their November meeting. Here are a few of the highlights:

  • Coaching News: MPH parent Bob Jaworski is the new Girls Varsity Lacrosse coach; Moe Farrell is the new coach of the Middle and Upper School Equestrian Teams and Kathy Patrician is serving as team coordinator; MPH Counselor Alan Andrews is coaching Girls Modified Basketball; Joe Galuski is coaching Varsity Basketball and faculty member Andrey Jackson is coaching the JV team.
  • Construction on the Andrews Farm property is anticipated to begin in the spring. An eventual cross-country course on that land is being considered.
  • The MPH softball diamond will be professionally groomed for the season.
  • An intramural basketball program for Seventh and Eighth Grade girls will begin in January as a pilot program.
  • Onondaga League Rule Change: Cheerleaders now may perform only at their school’s home game. Cheerleading, at varsity games only, is open to MPH Upper School girls and boys.
  • MPH parent and Trustee Josh Wells, of American Food and Vending, will supply the School with a commercial ice machine; a ready supply of ice will now be available to our athletes.

The Athletic Committee, which meets monthly, is anxious for new members who would like to hear about and be involved in matters like those above. You are invited to join us at our next meeting, on Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the Farmhouse boardroom. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m.

MPH would like to extend special thanks to Nick Orso's Body Shop for their contribution to the MPH fitness room.
