MPHMUN 2006

2. Ambassadors and Delegation Heads

Each delegation should appoint one person to act as the primary Representative for that delegation, assuming the role of Ambassador when the delegation is on the floor for meetings. Schools with more than one delegation should appoint one Ambassador per delegation represented.

The Ambassador has a number of responsibilities, including:
1. Coordinate the delegation across Committees, and address other committees if requested;
2. Coordinate and monitor the delegation's submission of resolutions at the Conference;
3. Represent the delegation at general meetings of Ambassadors called by the Conference;
4. Act as liaison to the Secretariat for any administrative matters at the Conference.

The Ambassador may sit in any Committee at MPHMUN, in addition to the two regular Representatives allowed in any Committee. The Ambassador may be assigned to a specific Committee, or may "float" throughout the various simulations at the Conference, helping where needed.

As leader of the delegation, the Ambassador should be the focal point for coordinating the delegation's efforts throughout the various Committees. This person should allow your nation to maintain a coherent policy on similar issues which may surface in the different simulations.

It is essential that the Ambassador maintain contact with all Committees, to insure that one Representative is not acting in a way which is not consistent with the remainder of their delegation. While the "character" of the delegation's role playing should be thoroughly discussed in advance of the Conference, it is the Ambassador's job to make sure that individuals remain within that "character" while at the Conference.

It is also very important for the Ambassador to monitor resolutions sponsored by the delegation at the Conference. A resolution is a written statement of a country's viewpoint on the issue at question, and should thus be considered carefully to make sure that it is both within the country's policies, and is of sufficient content to not prove embarrassing to the country if submitted for consideration on the floor.
