Welcome to the Manlius Pebble Hill Lower School.  At MPH the Lower School has the privilege of introducing our youngest children to their PreK through twelfth grade journey, upon which the foundation of all future learning will be built.  Our ultimate goal is to instill a love of lifelong learning and we begin by embracing each child as an individual with unique gifts and talents.

We focus on the education of the whole child and our curriculum is rooted in research and best practices.  While our experienced and committed faculty is mindful of national standards, we allow those standards to inform, not mandate our curriculum.  We set high expectations for educating the whole child across multiple domains: academic, social, emotional, physical and creative.  We are deeply committed to supporting each child to achieve his/her personal best and teaching our students to be reflective about their learning, to be self-advocates, and to positively contribute to our community both within MPH and beyond. 

In addition to daily instruction in core content subjects, art, creativity and a love and respect for the humanities informs a rich schedule of ‘encore’ classes in the Lower School.  All students in Prekindergarten through Grade Five engage physical education (daily), art, world language, music and library.  Students in Prekindergarten through Grade Two may participate in Suzuki strings lessons.  Students in Grades Three through Five have choices within our performing arts curriculum that include dance, chorus, band or orchestra, and instrumental lessons.

Running, playing, jumping and teamwork are and important aspect of childhood.  In keeping with our dedication to educating the whole child, all Lower School students have recess every day, in addition to physical education.  During recess, you will find our lower elementary students playing on one of two developmentally appropriate playgrounds.  Our upper elementary students often prefer sledding, snow shoeing, or engaging in teacher-supervised, creative play in the tree line near the playground, where students have made a tradition of building forts. From thatching roofs, to collecting rocks, to constructing floors in their forts and planting flowers, our students combine social, creative and physical learning while building memories.
