A Letter from the Head of School

Throughout this website you will find many details about Manlius Pebble Hill School – academics, student life, the alumni program, and admission procedures. All of this detail represents the breadth and depth of the school's commitment to educating both current and future generations of young people. I encourage you to take the time to peruse this site and absorb the many facets of the School.

However, if you are looking for a simple statement which truly captures the essence of Manlius Pebble Hill, take a look at the school's mission statement – a simple but powerful document that underpins everything we do at Manlius Pebble Hill. This statement informs and guides our judgments as a touchstone that really does not permit deviation. When we have an individual question about a student or educational philosophy, we collectively return to the mission for clarification and definition.

Consider just a few of its concepts and how they apply both to what our students experience here and now and to what they take with them into the world. Terms like "creative" and "intellectual" are in the statement because they reflect the reality of the institution. The discussion of the environment using terms such as "caring," "personalized," and "independent" reflects an attitude towards students that by definition is non-adversarial and reflective of a family/community conceptual framework. Indeed, our students are "inquisitive" and alive to the life of the mind. They enjoy the wonderful world of learning something new and different every day, participating in an experience that must be lived to be fully understood.

Clearly the Manlius Pebble Hill experience is a unique one. If, after reviewing the enormous amount of information about the school contained within this website, you have any questions or wish to hear more, please don't hesitate to contact me directly. There is nothing I enjoy more than sharing the philosophy and vision of our school.
